Email setup

Set up your email on iPhone (Mail app)

Add your work email to the Mail app that comes with your iPhone.

About five minutes. You will need your email address and password, and the settings from Your email settings.

Steps

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.

  2. Scroll down and tap Apps, then Mail. On older iPhones, tap Mail directly from the main Settings list.

  3. Tap Mail Accounts, then Add Account.

  4. Tap Other at the bottom of the list, then Add Mail Account.

  5. Fill in:

    • Name ‚Äî how you want your name to appear when people receive your mail
    • Email ‚Äî your full email address
    • Password ‚Äî your email password
    • Description ‚Äî anything that helps you recognise the account, such as your company name
  6. Tap Next. Your iPhone will try to work the settings out itself and will not manage it. That is expected. Wait for it to finish, then carry on.

  7. Make sure IMAP is selected at the top, not POP.

  8. Under Incoming Mail Server:

    • Host Name: imap.yourdomain.com
    • User Name: your full email address
    • Password: your email password
  9. Under Outgoing Mail Server:

    • Host Name: smtp.yourdomain.com
    • User Name: your full email address
    • Password: your email password

The User Name and Password here look optional because iPhone labels them that way. They are not. Leave them blank and your mail will arrive but never send.

  10. Tap Next. Verification takes up to a minute.

  11. Tap Save.

Check it worked

Send yourself an email from another account and reply to it. If both directions work, you are done.

If it does not work

"Cannot Get Mail" or verification fails

Check the server names. It is imap. for incoming and smtp. for outgoing — easy to type the same one into both.

Mail arrives but will not send

The outgoing server is missing your username and password. Go to Settings ‚Üí Apps ‚Üí Mail ‚Üí Mail Accounts, tap the account, tap the account name again, then SMTP ‚Üí the primary server, and fill both in.

"The password for [account] is incorrect"

Type the password somewhere you can read it first, then paste it. It is nearly always a typo, and iPhone hides what you are typing.
